Title: Cavepeople IRC
Description: IRC Channel

TheDonWan - July 30, 2006 09:58 PM (GMT)
Hey everyone. Ive posted this before, but if you guys are interested, I have an IRC channel set up. Myself and Icarus are the moderators, along with Buttaknife who has helped me with EVERYTHING. Please sign up you guys!

If you dont have an IRC client, I suggest mIRC.

mIRC download link

If you have a mac, you'll have to download IRCLE.

IRCLE for MACs

When you download mirc, simply choose your server, which will be Enterthegame

When you connect to the server simply type: /join #thecavepeople

You'll see Buttaknife in there if Im not there. He will help you register your nick. He doesnt bite.. well, maybe he does but only in a good way. ;)

*waves*

Slight change in plan boys and girls. #thecavepeople is still on EnterTheGame, but the primary channel will be on a new network called Global Gamers Center. I shall tell you how to join the cool people there...

I mostly use mIRC so this will be primary targetting that client. (TheDonWan posted a link to DL it already.) If you use another client just post here if you have trouble connecting or whatever and I'll help you as much as I can.

In mIRC, click View, then Options (or hit Alt O). Select Connect, then Servers. It will have drop down boxes for IRC Network and IRC Server. Unfortunately, GGC is so new that it won't be there. We can fix that though. Click Add, then type something in the Description box. ("GGC or Global Gamers Center would make the most sense, but "RAWR" works too.) For the IRC Server box, type this: "irc.globalgamerscenter.net". The Port should default to 6667 and that works fine for most people. Go ahead and click Add. After that you should be able to click Connect To Server because the GGC server should be selected. :) For those more familiar with mIRC, or if you do not want to go through the hassle of adding the server to the server list, you can type this: "/server irc.globalgamerscenter.net" (without the quotes) in mIRC to connect. If you want to be on multiple IRC networks, do "/server -m irc.globalgamerscenter.net" to open a seperate connection without closing your existing connection.

Now assuming you got through that part without any problems you should be connected to GGC! You can /join #thecavepeople and hang out! We recommend you register your account/nick (EnterTheGame does not support this) and it is really easy. Type /ns register YourAccountNameHere YourPasswordHere (please replace YourAccountNameHere and YourPasswordHere with your own info. Don't make me slap you.) After that, you will be registered and any time you connect you can log back in to your new account by typing: /auth YourAccountNameHere YourPasswordHere

If you're confused or having problems just reply here and I'll help you get situated. If mIRC doesn't work for you on Windows you can Google for HydraIRC or VisualIRC. Those are two other good clients. For other platforms just ask, I'll help you find a good one. Once you're on GGC if you have any questions just ask in the channel and I'll answer whenever I'm around. :)

EDIT: On the next page of this thread IndianPrincess gave better instructions if this is your first time using IRC. Thanks! :)

TheDonWan - August 4, 2006 09:42 AM (GMT)
:D Thank you Butta!

I reaaaaallly encourage everyone to join IRC, because its super easy, and Buttaknife just launched GGC, his new server, so I really want to do everything I can to support him.

Ps--MOAP members, if you want to make a channel in GGC, please let me know, the server is awesome.

Moonface - August 4, 2006 04:34 PM (GMT)
Never tried IRC before, but I'll see what it's like later today. One quick question though (one of many to come I'm sure), but is mIRC not free? I downloaded it, and it's asking me to register. Will I not be able to use it anymore after the 30 day eval?

~Vel - August 4, 2006 05:35 PM (GMT)
for whatever reason it never makes you register... >_> weird british coder <.< you'll be fine, i dont know of anybody that's ever registered mirc and i've been useing it for a good 3 and a half years lol

Ahem... and might I ask what's wrong with mine (where moap is currently hosted)?

Also, after 30 days mIRC's registration dialog just sticks around, it will never stop you from using it though.

IndianPrincess - August 4, 2006 10:59 PM (GMT)
i'm in

Thanks for the info guys. I wasn't sure if it would still work after that eval, but that's good to hear that it does.

beasting - August 5, 2006 04:36 AM (GMT)
for some reason every time i try to type in the whole "/#cavewhatever" thing it says Not connected and i dont know why

ButtaKnife - August 5, 2006 05:02 AM (GMT)
If you're using mIRC, you can try copy/pasting this into the command line:
/server irc.globalgamerscenter.net -j #thecavepeople

Strunky - August 5, 2006 02:02 PM (GMT)
The last 5 times I've gone into mIRC nobodies been there.

IndianPrincess - August 5, 2006 06:06 PM (GMT)
i'm in, and i'll stay signed in for awhile, but may go away from the computer for a bit.... but i'll be back! :)

7th EL - August 5, 2006 06:15 PM (GMT)
Yeah, this one time there was only other fanboys in there.

Zoom - August 5, 2006 06:53 PM (GMT)
This is the most confusing thing ever. I am so lost...

beasting - August 5, 2006 07:31 PM (GMT)
thank you Zoom im not the only one that is confused by this

IndianPrincess - August 5, 2006 07:47 PM (GMT)
Ok, here's detailed, step-by-step instructions. I will assume you have already downloaded and installed the program. :)

1) Click the lightning bolt icon in the top left corner.
2) In the dialogue box that appears, type in your nick (name) and alternate.
3) Click the plus sign next to "Connect" on the left and click "Servers."
4) Click "Add"
5) Name the new server "GGC" and paste irc.globalgamerscenter.net into the address field. Click "Add."
6) This will return you to the window in which you choose servers, and GGC should be selected. Click "Connect to Server"
7) You should be connected now. Click the third icon from the left in the top row that looks like a folder with #+ on it.
8) Click the "Add" button.
9) Type in "#thecavepeople" without quotes in the Channel field and click the "Join on Connect" option.
10) Click the "Add" button.
11) #thecavepeople should be selected; click "Join."
12) Congrats, you're in! :D

From now on, all you have to do is open mIRC and click the lightning bolt and it will automatically sign you on to our channel.

Zoom - August 5, 2006 07:49 PM (GMT)
Thank you! Indian told me this step by step process and it got me in.

Some people have never used irc before, and have NO idea how to use it. Like me.

IndianPrincess - August 5, 2006 07:51 PM (GMT)
it's fun.. a little old fashioned, but fun... makes me feel like i'm 14 again! lol

Cayote - August 5, 2006 10:25 PM (GMT)

XChat

TheDonWan - August 5, 2006 11:16 PM (GMT)
I know its confusing at first, but its really easy once you get the hang of it.

Thank you for those of you who have joined! Im usually on all the time, but lately my computer has been disconnecting me. Anyways, just ask Butta if you guys have any questions. ;) Otherwise I'll see you there!

Cayote - September 4, 2006 11:25 PM (GMT)
My Xchat ran out! :(
I'm going to use MIRC now.

Free xchat.

Also, here's a guide for getting started. Just replace all instances of irc.bungie.org with irc.enterthegame.com.

foomojive - September 5, 2006 02:06 PM (GMT)
easy explanation of how to chat:
  1. Get firefox (if you don't already have it)
  2. Install the Chatzilla extension
  3. click this link in Firefox
That's it!

capnchicken - September 5, 2006 11:12 PM (GMT)
I use Chatzilla for everything IRC and was about to say something about it myself.

Are you trying to connect to the correct port?

Strunky - September 11, 2006 02:44 PM (GMT)
NEW PROBLEM

I followed Talli's instructions to the tee and got in. YEAH!!! Now though when I try to reconnect it tells me the server connat be reached. WTF is that?

foomojive - September 11, 2006 03:26 PM (GMT)
I think it occasionally goes down. I'm in there now but no one else is.

Primal - September 11, 2006 03:39 PM (GMT)
well I tried over the weekend to do this and I couldn't.

The blonde actually comes out trying to do this with computers.

have you tried it this way? this is the easy way IMHO because you don't have to deal with servers and rooms and commands. you just install a few things and click a link and ba-baam, you're chatting.

Primal - September 11, 2006 03:46 PM (GMT)
I didn't try it that way. And I already have firefox. I always had it. When I get home I will try it out. :)

Strunky - September 11, 2006 03:55 PM (GMT)
Unable to resolve server. Over and over again. I must be missing something.

Rahikaru - September 11, 2006 04:15 PM (GMT)
There is little activity over there -_-

Signal Ghost - September 11, 2006 05:34 PM (GMT)
ok, i'm on.....I think!

foomojive - September 11, 2006 06:14 PM (GMT)
why don't we start a #thecavepeople room on irc.bungie.org? at least we know the server doesn't time out there.

Here's a link to open the room if you have Chatzilla. I would think HBO wouldn't mind because it's a Halo community.

KPaul - September 11, 2006 11:06 PM (GMT)
It's certainly fine with us and I'd fully support it, but I'm pretty sure they're attached to the server they're in right now.

We have a room
#cayotecavegirls

There is usually someone hanging out there. And I still go there.
But I definitely wouldn't mind having a new one called the cavepeople
